About The Position

VHB is seeking an Environmental Planning Intern to work in our Hauppauge, NY office for Summer 2027. This role involves supporting the preparation of environmental review documentation, conducting site visits, and performing administrative functions. The intern will gain experience in various aspects of environmental planning and assessment.

Requirements

Candidates must be a current student working towards their BS, BA or master’s degree in urban planning/studies, environmental science, public policy, or a related field.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Fast learner, self-motivated.
Highly organized.
Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks concurrently.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and GIS.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Adobe Suite a plus.

Responsibilities

Support the preparation of Environmental Assessment forms, Environmental Impact Statements and similar environmental review documentation.
Prepare quantitative, qualitative and spatial analyses for planning-related chapters, including: land use, zoning and public policy; community facilities; open space; socioeconomic conditions; shadows; urban design; and infrastructure.
Support the preparation of environmental permitting documents.
Conduct site visits for various projects to survey land use, urban design, historic resources, and site conditions.
Perform administrative functions and research in support of department operations.
Coordinate with project team members.
