About The Position

WSP is seeking an Early Career Environmental Planner to join their Honolulu, HI office. This role involves providing technical environmental planning assistance for projects across the country, focusing on assessing environmental impacts of various development types. The position offers an opportunity to learn and contribute to environmental impact assessments (NEPA), public involvement, data collection and analysis, and report preparation. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with NEPA, strong writing skills, a good work ethic, and a genuine interest in career growth within a professional team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning or Policy, Environmental Science, Biological Science, Geology or Water Resources, Natural Resources, or a related field.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant environmental or planning experience.
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills and excellent writing skills.
  • Effective analytical skills and prior experience with research techniques and data collection.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental laws, permitting requirements, and applicable Regional/State/Federal regulatory framework.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific software (GIS).
  • Familiarity with office automation and communication software, technology, and document formatting and management (i.e., Microsoft, Adobe Professional, Google Earth).
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from data collation, and identify the most effective manner to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
  • Moderate proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Familiarity with mo'omeheu 'oiwi desired
  • Successful candidate will be expected to reside on O'ahu
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Prior internship related to environmental planning

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing NEPA environmental assessments and environmental impact statements, impact assessments, environmental survey reports, data entry, and permitting documentation for assigned tasks (e.g., NEPA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act permitting, nuclear licensing, etc.).
  • Assist with field and desktop collection, identification, and compilation of observational, spatial, operations, and environmental data from multiple matrices for projects, research, and surveys.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, demographics, patterns and trends, and statistical analysis of environmental data.
  • Assist with performing basic professional environmental planning work relating to ecological systems, habitats, air, and water resources, assisting with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing entry level technical assistance on various environmental issues.
  • Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of habitats, sites, and potential impacts to the health of the environment and the population.
  • Support preparation for and participation in client meetings and public information meetings; organize public comment databases; review and respond to public comments.
  • Complete training and meet project schedules on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
