Thomas & Hutton has an opening for a motivated and driven Environmental Permitting and Compliance Engineer in Columbia, SC. This role requires 2-5 years' experience preferably in a consulting engineering environment in environmental compliance and permitting; specifically, air quality permitting and compliance, environmental site assessments, multi-media environmental compliance audits, spill prevention and contingency plans, industrial wastewater, and stormwater compliance. This position requires regular client interaction. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports. Experience using AERMOD, or similar air dispersion modeling software, is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering
  • Professional Engineering registration, EIT Certification, or ability to become EIT certified within 6 months strongly preferred
  • 2 – 5 years of previous experience working with industrial and/or municipal clients
  • Strong ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Experience preparing permit applications and compliance programs for multiple environmental media, including air, wastewater, stormwater, waste, spill prevention and storage tanks, EPCRA (Tier II, TRI)
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary project teams and comfortable guiding them through best practices
  • The ability to work a regular schedule of 7:30AM – 5:30PM Mon-Thurs and 7:30AM – 11:30AM Fri, occasional evening and weekend work
  • Proven ability to multi-task, appropriately prioritize workflow and complete tasks
  • Highly client service oriented, self-starter, and team player
  • Ability to visit project sites, attend project meetings and meet clients
  • Experience with writing (i.e., regulatory compliance plans, stormwater inspection reports, proposals)
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with multiple stakeholders
  • Planning and organizational skills with the ability to meet project deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail of complex engineered components
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a client-focused mindset
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Basic skills using financial reporting tools to evaluate project performance.
  • Strong leadership skills
