Environmental Modeler

ICF•Reston, VA
•$67,355 - $114,503

About The Position

The Environmental Modeler serves as a technical lead on projects involving exposure and pharmacokinetic modeling. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team modeling the effects of environmental pollutants—including metals, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds—on human health and the environment. Work for Federal clients includes human health risk assessments that may involve dose-response or pharmacokinetic modeling; development and implementation of fate, transport, and exposure models; and custom exposure and risk models to simulate pollutant effects, such as those of lead. The modeler scopes, creates, tests, and documents scientific code and user interfaces for exposure and pharmacokinetic models. The role also involves data and statistical analysis using tools such as Excel, Access, R, SAS, Python, SQL, and VBA, and mentoring junior coders in appropriate methods for developing and implementing environmental models. The position is located in Reston, Virginia, or Durham, North Carolina, with potential for remote work. The stated full-time pay range is $67,355 to $114,503. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States; the position is not eligible for new H-1B visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related subject, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum one to two years of experience using or coding environmental models.
  • Experience with mathematics, probability, and statistics, particularly differential equations and their numerical solutions.
  • Expertise with R.
  • Experience running or, ideally, coding exposure and/or pharmacokinetic models.
  • Familiarity with algorithms commonly used in exposure models.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including experience developing user guides and technical support documents.
