About The Position

The Environmental Manager provides leadership and strategic direction for all environmental engineering, compliance, and sustainability activities at the Tyler Pipe Texas facility. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations while supporting safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations. The Environmental Manager reports directly to the General Manager and indirectly to the McWane Group Environmental Compliance Director. The role provides direct and indirect supervision of environmental professionals, supervisors, technicians, and clerical staff.

Requirements

  • Strong management and leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build, develop, and lead high-performing teams, while effectively organizing, prioritizing, evaluating work, and supervising professional and technical staff.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline required
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in environmental management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal environmental laws, rules, and regulations, including air, water, and waste compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of data processing systems and computer applications used for environmental reporting, system planning, and engineering analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information, supported by proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, scheduling, and contract administration, including the application of alternative analysis methods such as cost‑benefit analysis and life‑cycle assessment.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and administer comprehensive environmental compliance programs while making sound, timely decisions that align regulatory requirements with business objectives.
  • Physical ability to work in variable environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and uneven or elevated work surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Provide departmental leadership and management for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and applicable industry best practices.
  • Develop, obtain, maintain, and review environmental permits, registrations, and exemptions related to air, water, and waste activities to ensure facility operations remain compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Review and verify the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all environmental reports prior to submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Evaluate engineering, production, and capital projects, including changes in processes or materials, to ensure continued compliance with environmental permits and regulatory obligations.
  • Implement and oversee facility-wide training programs for management, supervisors, and hourly employees on proper environmental practices, including hazardous materials handling, spill prevention, containment, and response.
  • Provide leadership and oversight during environmental inspections, audits, and assessments conducted by regulatory agencies, third-party consultants, and internal management teams.
  • Ensure that environmental records, documentation, and reports required for regulatory compliance or company policy are accurately maintained, properly safeguarded, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental regulatory agencies and interface with regulators, consultants, and environmental professionals across other McWane facilities and within the industry.
  • Develop and manage the environmental department budget and prepare detailed cost-benefit analyses for significant environmental initiatives and capital projects.
  • Oversee and support the professional development, performance management, and succession planning for Environmental Department staff.
  • Collaborate closely with senior management to integrate environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives into overall plant operations and business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Environmental Department and other facility departments to promote effective communication, compliance, and environmental stewardship.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
