About The Position

The Company’s Environmental Management Organization includes a staff of approximately 250 biologists, cultural resource specialists, environmental field specialists, environmental planners, and scientists. Our goal is to ensure that PG&E’s lands and assets are well managed. We work closely with state and federal regulators to protect the unique landscapes and environmental resources found on these properties and to acquire all environmental permits required to conduct activities on them, while ensuring compliance. Our work requires close integration among our team of planners, land specialists, and environmental scientists, as well as our law and environmental programs groups and the gas, electric, generation, corporate real estate, and other functional areas we support. The Environmental Management Generation team operates within the Environmental Management Organization and includes a staff of environmental professionals who provide support to the Power Generation line of business. Our work requires close integration between our team of land planners, environmental field specialists, biologists, and environmental scientists, as well as with law and environmental programs and the Power Generation line of business. Position Summary Seeking Environmental Management intern to support land planners in Butte, Plumas, and Lassen County for PG&E hydroelectric facilities. Primarily providing support for recreation facilities such as PG&E campgrounds and day use areas, including field and computer tasks. Additional tasks may include supporting water and environmental compliance program. Summer intern: M-F, 40 hrs/week HQ Location: Chico, CA

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Recreation Management, Environmental Studies or a related field at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have a driver's license or obtain one at least 30 days prior to start date

Responsibilities

  • Assisting PG&E staff and recreation contractors with collecting, reviewing, and computer data entry of recreational use data.
  • Taking digital photos of recreation facilities and campsites; updating website photos.
  • Assisting with inspecting and/or documenting recreation facilities for cleanliness, repair, current postings, fire safety, etc. based on PG&E standards.
  • Assisting with obtaining and/or delivering/distributing recreation materials and supplies (e.g., keys, signage, fliers, etc.) to PG&E staff, recreation sites, and contractors.
  • May assist with other data entry and record keeping tasks - such as uploading project photos, updating salesforce records, etc.
  • May assist with cancelling campground reservations in the event of emergency (e.g., fire or storm).
  • Support to Environmental Management’s water quality program including observation of field work intended to measure water quality parameters during operations and construction activities.
  • Support to the Environmental Compliance Managers and Environmental Field Specialists at Power Generating facilities including both hydroelectric and fossil power plants. Tasks could include assisting with data aggregation, file management, and map reviews.
  • Commitment to PG&E safety procedures and standards paramount - including wearing appropriate work attire and PG&E-supplied PPE as required.
  • Valid driver’s license required to drive throughout PG&E’s service territory.
  • Travel on rural paved and unpaved roads to public campgrounds and recreation areas is expected a few days a week.
  • Both outdoor and indoor work expected; familiarity with outdoor recreation activities such as camping, hiking, and/or fishing is beneficial (e.g., campfire safety, water safety, bear safety, etc.).
  • Will interact regularly with PG&E employees, clerks, and contracted recreation host staff; expect occasional interaction with the public and agency staff.
  • Good record keeping, organization, and communication skills a must.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to follow written procedures and/or PG&E written or verbal staff direction.
  • Ability to use computer software and perform computer data entry required (e.g., Microsoft word, outlook, and excel; data entry into Salesforce and web applications; smart phone and tablet apps, etc.).
  • Professional customer interaction (internal to PG&E and with public) required.
