About The Position

At Para la Naturaleza, a non-profit environmental organization based in Puerto Rico, we believe that conservation begins with people. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic professional to join our team at Hacienda Buena Vista (Ponce, PR) and help inspire communities and visitors to connect with, value, and protect Puerto Rico’s natural and cultural heritage. The Environmental Interpreter develops and facilitates interpretive experiences, educational programs, and community-based initiatives that foster environmental stewardship and meaningful participation in conservation efforts. This position works closely with diverse audiences, including local communities, volunteers, visitors, schools, and partner organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Natural Sciences, Geography, Agronomy, History, Education, Social Sciences, Community Development, Environmental Education, or related fields.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in environmental interpretation, community engagement, environmental education, volunteer coordination, outreach programs, community development, or related work.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, educational activities, tours, community meetings, presentations, and volunteer initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with community groups, nonprofit organizations, schools, or public stakeholders.
  • Experience in customer service, public speaking, field work, and project implementation.
  • Fully bilingual with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Ability to build relationships, facilitate dialogue, and engage diverse audiences around environmental and conservation topics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and Windows and Mac operating systems.
  • Availability to work Wednesday through Sunday, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and outdoors on a regular basis.
  • Valid Puerto Rico Driver’s License (Category #4) with the ability to operate buses, trolleys, and other organizational vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and map interpretation.
  • Certifications such as Certified Interpretive Guide (National Association for Interpretation), CPR, and First Aid are highly desirable.
  • Passion for conservation, environmental education, and community engagement.
  • Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire action and stewardship among diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive community participation in conservation initiatives.
  • Adaptability, initiative, and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
