About The Position

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is seeking an Environmental Inspector to join their team for the Scarborough Subway Extension project. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Environmental Management System (EMS) across multiple project sites. The Environmental Inspector will be based full-time on-site and will play a crucial role in monitoring, inspecting, and reporting on environmental aspects of the construction works.

Requirements

  • A diploma or a bachelor or advanced degree in an environmental related discipline (ecology/biology/environmental science) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • A minimum of three to five years of demonstrated work experience in environmental monitoring and mitigation during roadway construction or transit infrastructure construction.
  • Specific experience with work in and around watercourses, erosion and sedimentation control measures, reporting spills, and containment of effluent and dust during construction.
  • Certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC), or proven proficiency in observing, inspecting, and reporting on the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
  • Full Canadian driver's license with a clear driver's abstract.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily monitoring and inspections on all aspects of the Works in accordance with the EMS.
  • Maintain a log of monitoring and inspection events, including photographic evidence.
  • Complete monitoring and inspection reports and provide them to the Environmental Compliance Officer for inclusion in the Monthly Environmental Report.
  • Assist with client comments and queries on reports.
  • Review weekly air quality, noise, and vibration reports, including proposed mitigations, and advise/monitor construction teams.
  • Attend construction meetings to provide advice and recommendations for improving environmental protection and correcting non-compliance issues within 24 hours of noticing a potential issue.
  • Prepare non-conformance reports, spill reports, and other environmental incident reports, notify regulatory authorities as required, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Interface with environmental subconsultants.
  • Assist with collecting environmental samples and measurements (soil, groundwater, stormwater discharge, dust, noise, tree protection zones).
  • Assist environmental team members with other reporting, such as annual compliance reports and environmental trackers.
  • Respond to evening and weekend calls as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as defined by the Environmental Compliance Officer, Environmental Manager, or Environmental Director.
