About The Position

The Healthy Homes Environmental Representative must possess a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Environmental Public Health as they pertain to the healthy homes concept, lead poisoning prevention, and in-home asthma assessments. Under contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the position conducts annual and follow-up inspections, complaint and/or special circumstance investigations of child care and lodging facilities to ensure compliance with health and safety codes and local ordinances. The position also provides family consultation services on asthma management methods and conducts in-home environmental assessments to identify family-actionable items to reduce asthma triggers. In addition, the position may assist staff in conducting lead risk assessments and recommending proper lead abatement.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, mathematics, chemistry, a natural science or a related field and two years of related experience.
  • Possession of a valid Drivers License.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce health and safety codes by inspecting child care and lodging facilities to ensure compliance with local and state regulations.
  • Conduct re-inspections and follow-up investigations as necessary.
  • Perform in-home asthma assessments to identify asthma triggers and educate the family on asthma management methods.
  • May assist with lead risk assessments using portable lead detection equipment and indoor air quality instruments.
  • Perform necessary tests and measurements.
  • Consult with property owners/managers regarding the nature and purpose of the inspection(s).
  • Document and maintain records of inspection/risk assessment activities.
  • Provide quality reports and summarize inspection findings.
  • Provide case management in response to a child's elevated blood lead level and enters data utilizing the state data management system.
  • Test surfaces for lead paint hazards using an x-ray fluorescence analyzer and collect consumer products, dust, soil and water for lead and monitor test results.
  • Prepare and generate reports and review, process, or prepare documents relating to projects, contracts, and/or grants.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
