About The Position

Yavapai County Development Services Department is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist to join their team. This role is available in both Prescott and Cottonwood locations. The position is open for either an Environmental Health Specialist I or an Environmental Health Specialist II, depending on the applicant's qualifications. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, possess strong communication and customer service skills, and have a passion for promoting environmental health. Adaptability to evolving challenges and a comprehensive understanding of relevant regulations are also important. The role involves making a positive impact on the environment and the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in the field of Environmental Health or related field (Environmental Specialist II).
  • Must possess current Registered Sanitarian certification in the State of Arizona (Environmental Specialist II).

Responsibilities

  • Answers questions in and out of the office from the public regarding delegated programs.
  • Conducts inspections of assigned areas and settings.
  • Monitors the presence of, and identifies, hazardous pollutants that may pose a threat to public health and environments.
  • Inspects public places and observes changes in the environment.
  • Performs site investigations as a basis for onsite wastewater system design and writes detailed reports regarding those inspections.
  • Reviews and utilizes site investigations in determining the appropriateness of onsite wastewater system design.
  • Conducts technical reviews of permit applications to determine compliance with applicable rules for conventional and alternative wastewater systems and issue construction authorizations.
  • Conducts construction inspections of onsite wastewater systems to determine compliance with applicable rules and writes detailed reports regarding those inspections.
  • Reviews well applications for compliance with setback rules.
  • Applies federal, state and local codes and regulations (Environmental Specialist II).
  • Provides recommendations for corrective actions for inspections performed (Environmental Specialist II).
  • Prepares and presents written reports (Environmental Specialist II).
