The primary responsibility of this position is the promotion of public health through surveillance, inspection, consultation, education, and enforcement of environmental health laws and regulations. This role involves conducting land evaluations for wastewater disposal systems and water supply installations, designing sewage treatment systems, inspecting installations, responding to service requests, collecting GPS data, assisting with private drinking water well installations, and preparing reports. The specialist will also assist in developing educational programs, conducting surveys, and performing periodic inspections of septic systems. Additionally, the role includes assisting with pre- and post-disaster activities, such as distributing informational handouts, inspecting water supply wells and sewage treatment systems, and staffing an environmental health hotline. Assistance with the Mosquito Surveillance Program is also required, including trap setup, retrieval, and cleaning, as well as identifying mosquitoes and obtaining continuing education in this area.
