The Environmental Health Bureau, part of the County of Monterey’s Department of Health, oversees seven major environmental health regulatory programs. This position is for a full-time Environmental Health Specialist IV (EHS IV) within the Healthy Housing Services program. This program ensures safe and healthy living environments by inspecting and enforcing housing regulations for various facilities, investigating complaints, addressing substandard conditions, conducting vector control and agricultural field toilet inspections, supporting lead poisoning prevention, and performing other environmental health activities. The EHS IV is a supervisory/leadership role focused on supporting the Director of Environmental Health's goals through administrative oversight and quality assurance. This role involves reviewing staff work, providing feedback, spotting trends, ensuring proper follow-up, and guiding the team to meet performance measures and maintain high standards. The position also manages grant-funded projects, requiring administrative, contract policy, and technical analysis, strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, program recommendations, and public outreach. The EHS IV manages their program by efficiently utilizing team resources, planning thoroughly, delegating tasks, monitoring progress, and communicating frequently. A $10,000 signing bonus is offered for regular full-time hires as of October 11, 2023. Veterans’ preference points are awarded for this recruitment.
