The Loudoun County Department of Health seeks a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our dynamic team as an Environmental Health Specialist within the Rabies Program. As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will play a pivotal role within the Rabies Program, operating under general supervision and serve on a team of highly skilled environmental health professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of related work experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Pass pre-employment criminal background check, fingerprint, and DMV checks
  • Must obtain and maintain active rabies vaccination status (pre-exposure series)

Responsibilities

  • Provide rabies disease control services to a diverse population.
  • Animal Bite Report investigations to comply with local and state codes.
  • Provide public education for rabies disease control and prevention.
  • Perform routine investigations of animal bites, including confinement and release of animals.
  • Prepare animal specimens for sampling and provide follow-up of cases.
  • Perform other routine environmental investigations, including being on a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
