We currently have an opportunity for an Environmental Health & Safety Technician at our Manufacturing Facility in Jacksonville (East), IL. As an Environmental Health & Safety Technician you will provide environmental, health, and safety (EHS) technical support that enables safe operations, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the manufacturing facility. Partners with plant leadership to administer environmental and safety programs, maintain required documentation, coordinate employee training, and support proactive risk reduction initiatives. Drives compliance with applicable environmental regulations and company standards by monitoring performance, maintaining records, conducting inspections and audits, and supporting corrective actions. Serves as a trusted resource for employees and cross-functional teams by promoting a strong safety culture, facilitating communication, and reinforcing operational accountability. Exercises independent judgment within established policies while escalating complex regulatory or compliance matters to EHS leadership. Supports incident investigations, environmental reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce organizational risk, strengthen operational performance, and protect employees, the environment, and company assets. Functions as a key contributor to plant-wide EHS objectives while providing backup support to the EHS Manager and collaborating with operations, engineering, maintenance, and regulatory stakeholders to sustain a safe, compliant, and high-performing manufacturing environment.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Environmental, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
- 2+ years of environmental, health, and safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety principles and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to influence safe work practices through collaboration and employee engagement.
- Ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and support corrective actions.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across functional teams.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Additional manufacturing environmental compliance experience.
Responsibilities
- Administer environmental programs to maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate environmental requirements.
- Monitor environmental performance through inspections, sampling, data collection, reporting, and required regulatory documentation.
- Maintain environmental records and coordinate regulatory correspondence to support audit readiness and compliance.
- Coordinate hazardous waste, recycling, wastewater, stormwater, air emissions, chemical inventory, and related environmental compliance activities.
- Support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety policies, programs, and procedures.
- Coordinate employee onboarding, required safety training, and compliance tracking to strengthen workforce readiness.
- Conduct or support safety, environmental, and compliance audits while driving timely corrective actions.
- Lead or assist with incident, injury, near-miss, and fire investigations to identify root causes and reduce future risk.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene activities, hearing conservation, respirator fit testing, and emergency response training as assigned.
- Maintain EHS performance metrics, databases, and documentation that support operational decision-making and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate behavior-based safety initiatives and employee engagement programs that strengthen the plant safety culture.
- Participate in cross-functional safety committees to identify improvement opportunities and implement sustainable solutions.
- Provide day-to-day technical support to the EHS Manager and serve as backup during periods of absence.
- Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, and other functional teams to achieve environmental and safety objectives.
