About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician will support the EHS Manager in all aspects of environmental, health and safety for all SDSP locations in accordance with OSHA and State/Federal standards. The EHS Technician has the shared responsibility of implementation and compliance with safety programs through identifying opportunities to improve safety performance, performing job safety analysis, initiating corrective actions, and continuously engaging, coaching, and training SDSP associates and partners. The right candidate will possess a skill set to balance competing priorities and independently identify time-sensitive and emergent issues while completing all assigned routine tasks in an ever-changing environment. Headquartered in Volga, South Dakota, SDSP is an LLC of agricultural producers and a leading processor of locally grown soybeans. Our core business is producing value added soybean products which are sold into renewable fuel, food, feed, and various other industries. Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree with EHS related major preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy with ability and desire to learn new software applications.
  • Must be comfortable speaking to groups of people and facilitating meetings while effectively communicating at a professional level both in writing and verbally in all situations.
  • Ability to maintain opacity certification every 6 months (or as required by SD DANR)
  • This position requires the ability to travel to other locations/sites or training including some overnight stays
  • Self-motivated to maintain a safe, positive, productive attitude toward work and others.
  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and company vehicle insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the EHS Manager in promoting awareness of safety issues/concerns, reducing risk of occupational injuries, developing, and distributing communications, and following up on the completion of corrective or preventative measures.
  • Maintains records for EHS training, employee feedback, incident tracking and KPI tracking and reporting.
  • Monitors PPE inventory and usage and restocking, through audits and vending software.
  • Collect and management of contractor insurance requests
  • Tracks and maintains current Safety Data Sheets and safety signage throughout all facilities.
  • Conducts safety audits, incident investigations, prepares audit finding reports, and monitors monthly inspections.
  • Perform EHS duties and projects as requested, including environmental recordkeeping and reporting, audit tracking, development of training material, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
  • Developing and maintaining data management and data analysis spreadsheets, charts, and reports.
  • Conducts new hire and contractor safety orientations, Refresher training, daily toolbox talks, and safety audits.
  • Coordinates, and facilitates meetings, or events such as the Safety Committee, and health and wellness activities, including creating agendas and supplemental documents, recording, preparing and distributing notes or formal meeting minutes.
  • Performs daily transactional duties such as filing, data entry and collects information and prepare weekly, monthly, and yearly required reports for EHS.
  • Comply with SDSP’s Safe Quality Food (SQF) food safety program and polices.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while exercising good judgement, professional conduct and maintaining confidentiality regarding personnel and business matters.
  • Plan, develop and conduct and manage emergency drills and tabletop exercises
  • Perform duties outside normal responsibilities as needed to support the team and overall organizational goals.
