About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will partner in the development and implementation of environmental, health, and safety compliance programs. This role involves conducting site inspections, participating in EHS auditing, and recommending and following through on resolutions. The specialist will collect EHS metrics and reports, maintain injury/illness recordkeeping and reporting data, and serve as the ergonomics program leader. Additionally, this position will assist the EHS Director in preparing government reports, obtaining permits/certifications, and managing Workers Compensation claims and programs. The role also includes monitoring EHS training programs, maintaining the training database, and participating in safety committees and awareness programs. The specialist will conduct Behavior Based Safety observations, update job hazard safety analyses, and assist with indoor air quality and hearing conservation surveys. Responsibilities also encompass problem-solving, incident/accident investigations, coordinating hazard communication, and ensuring emergency response and evacuation plans are up-to-date. The role involves assisting with regulatory documentation, maintaining supplies and equipment, conducting toolbox talks, and performing safety, environmental, and building inspections. Specific tasks include assisting with mold assessments and performing mold abatements using specialized equipment. The position may perform other duties as assigned by the Director.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 5 years of EHS experience within a General Industry environment with prior safety duties or responsibilities.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, required.
  • Works well under pressure, effectively handles intense situations, strict deadlines and multiple tasks.
  • Ability to assess and implement EHS best practices.
  • Excellent organization, recordkeeping and documentation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good leadership skills and ability to mentor and motivate (a real passion for EHS).
  • Effective management skills.
  • Serves as a change agent to drive process improvements and change.
  • Creates alignment.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 general industry environment as business needs dictate. Work schedules could include days, nights or weekends as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Adept knowledge of various hand and power tools.
  • Able to be proactive and resourceful, skilled at working independently and taking ownership over tasks and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to drive consistent with applicable law.

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Yardi Work order System is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assists to make sure the emergency response & evacuation planning is complete, up to date and well communicated.
  • Assists in Regulatory documentation updates & specification requirements.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist in department Toolbox safety talks/training.
  • Conduct safety, environmental and building inspections.
  • Assist with mold assessments and perform mold abatements with the following equipment: HEPAA vacuums, dehumidifiers, air movers, and various disinfectants.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
