About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Environmental Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive program for Institutional compliance with occupational safety and health regulations. This role ensures that the institution is in compliance with joint commission and other regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in environmental health and safety or a related field.
  • Ability to multitask, manage shifting priorities and follow through on projects.
  • Ability to work in a construction/industrial environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs and familiarity with SharePoint.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Applied Science, Health or Environmental Science is required. Will accept equivalent experience (4 years) in lieu of education.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and assists with comprehensive laboratory and facilities safety evaluations and fire safety inspections.
  • Monitors, packages, transports, separates and processes hazardous materials for appropriate disposal.
  • Maintains program compliance reporting systems identifying and developing both corrective action and appropriate training for areas found to be deficient.
  • Assists in the development of standard operating procedures and other written guidelines.
  • Assists with data analysis to identify workplace health and safety risk trends, recommends and monitors actions to mitigate risk and develop prevention strategies/programs.
  • Documents corrective actions.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
