About The Position

Supports environmental health and workplace safety programs to maintain and promote a healthy and safe environment for staff, volunteers, patients and visitors that will reduce the financial risks associated with injuries and illnesses. Inspects and surveys areas and activities to minimize potential risks, and investigates incidents. Leads in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety policies and procedures, and provides education and/or training to help staff understand and comply with the requirements of the environmental health & workplace safety programs. Proven leadership in designing and executing full-scale exercises, drills, and after-action improvement planning, including corrective action tracking and program sustainment. Demonstrated expertise in incident command systems (HICS/NIMS) with experience serving in leadership roles during activations, real-world incidents, or emergency operations. Serving as a subject matter expert and program lead, providing strategic direction and technical consultation to leadership on emergency preparedness and response Strong experience in emergency response coordination and recovery operations, including incident action planning, communication systems, and continuity planning. Ability to operate independently with a high degree of autonomy, managing complex or ambiguous emergency management challenges, and developing innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health/Sciences, Public Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years recent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, protocols, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory protocols and requirements relating to workplace safety and injury prevention such as Title 22, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Cal-OSHA, The Joint Commission (TJC), Dept of Health, etc.
  • Understand hospital and/or ambulatory healthcare operations.
  • Ability to define issues, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach in identifying and addressing issues and concerns.
  • Collaboration skills to facilitate open sharing of information and cooperation with various stakeholders to problem solve and achieve desired results/outcome.
  • Displays a customer service focus in all decisions and actions.
  • Ability to communicate through verbal and written means, and to present information to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to create and translate data into reports and presentations for appropriate audience.
  • Organization skills to effectively manage and/or re-prioritize activities and projects to meet deadlines while maintaining a high degree of responsiveness.
  • Ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced healthcare emergency management experience (8+ years preferred) supporting hospital or integrated delivery systems, with demonstrated leadership in complex, multi-site environments.
  • Direct experience leading Joint Commission and CMS Emergency Management compliance programs, including; Annual program evaluations, Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA).
