About The Position

Everett Ship Repair (ESR) is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager who is responsible for implementing company Safety and Environmental Management System, at their location by executing company safety programs and developing site-specific safety plans, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. EHS Manager will also provide guidance and support to employees and management on safety-related matters and oversee the site EHS team. Focus: Site operational leadership and program execution at the organization level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
  • CSP, ASP, GSP, or SMS Certification or other recognized safety certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in a safety-related role.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations.
  • Experience with shipyard and OSHA 1915 standards.
  • Working knowledge / proficiency of regulatory requirements promulgated by industry and regulatory agencies and institutions such as OSHA, WISHA, Washington State Department of L&I, ABS and USCG
  • Ability to deliver EHS training to the team and develop and enhance EHS training.
  • Microsoft Office skills

Responsibilities

  • Implement the key elements of the EHS Management System throughout the operations at the company site.
  • Work with all levels of organizational management to meet safety compliance and implement safety improvements and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • SME for safety and environmental needs of the organization for employees and management.
  • Implement EHS Policy and companywide safety standards, programs throughout the organization and direction for the organization with plans and procedures for compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Complete site-specific safety plans per the safety standards and programs. At minimum make sure ERP, PPE, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Fire Prevention plans, amongst others, are in place and practiced.
  • Oversee EHS Supervisors and Coordinators that are assigned to vessels, drydock, yard, insuring they are inspecting and implementing EHS for drydocks, vessels, and organization.
  • Develop company emergency response plans and requirements to have site specific emergency response plans and procedures implemented at location.
  • Facilitate and oversee site’s safety committee, ERT, SCPs, with meetings and oversight as required to make sure each is happening, in place and actively contributing to the organization to proactively and continuously improve safety and environmental concerns of the location.
  • Oversee EHS training at the site to ensure the team and visitors receive the site safety orientation and safety training as required and work with local management and site Safety Manager to achieve team’s safety training.
  • Deliver training as needed or arrange internal or external as needed.
  • Ensure reporting of all injuries and losses and events no matter how small or insignificant.
  • Follow up that all paperwork is completed, and event is investigated to find areas for improvement.
  • Encourage proactive and near hit reporting by the team to prevent losses before they happen.
  • Complete and document investigations into all recordable injuries and near hits and hazards with a high potential for loss.
  • Ensure all loss, near hits, hazards and investigations is documented on EHS SharePoint and in tracker system.
  • Oversee and keep the OSHA Log for compliance with regulations.
  • Work with team to make sure of compliance with environmental regulations for stormwater, waste, and air permits.
  • Interact and report to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Oversee the safety inspection program by Safety Coordinators to inspect and check items including safety equipment, emergency equipment as needed throughout the facility, etc.
  • Work with Safety Coordinators to ensure daily safety walks happen and identify and address any hazards, non-conformance, or area for improvement.
  • Perform safety audits on SEMS and programs to ensure implemented throughout site.
  • Follow accountability process to make sure team is following safety rules and expectations and held accountable when they are not.
  • Assign action items to the team as they are found and follow up that they are completed.
  • Review safety performance at organization identifying areas for improvement and working with management team to improve facility and safety concerns.
