About The Position

Lead Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability Excellence Across USVI Airport Operations. Play a critical role in shaping the future of airport operations in the U.S. Virgin Islands as the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager with Avports. As STT and STX transition under a public-private partnership (P3) operating model, this position offers a unique opportunity to help establish a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, compliance, sustainability, and continuous improvement across two growing airport environments. This role serves as a key operational leader responsible for overseeing airport-wide environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs while ensuring compliance with applicable FAA, OSHA, EPA, local regulatory requirements, and Avports operating standards. As the environmental, health, and safety lead for both Cyril E. King Airport (STT) and Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX), you will work at the intersection of aviation safety, environmental compliance, sustainability, operational risk management, and stakeholder coordination. This role provides the opportunity to partner closely with airport leadership, operations personnel, maintenance teams, tenants, airlines, regulatory agencies, contractors, and community stakeholders to strengthen safety performance, support the Airport Safety Management System (SMS), advance sustainability initiatives, ensure environmental compliance, and maintain operational readiness across both airports. You will play an integral role in fostering a proactive safety culture, supporting environmental and sustainability goals, conducting inspections and audits, managing compliance programs, and supporting the long-term vision of Avports and its USVI airport partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Aviation Management, or a related field required.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible EHS management experience, preferably in aviation, transportation, industrial operations, public infrastructure, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance, occupational safety programs, audits, inspections, and corrective action processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA requirements, EPA regulations, Safety Management Systems (SMS), environmental permitting, hazardous materials management, and sustainability programs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airport security credentials and unescorted access privileges.
  • Successfully pass required background investigations, maintain a valid driver's license, and satisfactorily meet driving record requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must pass required background and driving record checks.
  • Ability to work across STT and STX airport locations.
  • Must meet airport access, security, contractor, and operational site requirements.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, environmental incidents, and operational disruptions as needed.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and meet physical demands, including occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive business, operational, employee, and regulatory information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead airport-wide environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs across STT and STX.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FAA, SMS, local regulatory requirements, permits, and Avports standards.
  • Manage environmental compliance programs, including air quality, water quality, stormwater, hazardous materials, waste management, noise management, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of the Airport Safety Management System (SMS), including inspections, audits, risk assessments, and corrective action programs.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective actions to improve safety performance and reduce operational risk.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response activities, including spills, environmental incidents, severe weather events, and operational disruptions.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs while maintaining environmental permits, regulatory reporting, compliance records, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with airport operations, maintenance, engineering, airlines, tenants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, compliance, and continuous improvement.
