About The Position

This is a remote position. The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Director will provide effective leadership for Global Architectural GSC operations in achieving world-class EHS performance and our Vision of Zero. This role involves the implementation of EHS standards & policies at all North American GSC sites, providing leadership, guidance, and development to employees on the GSC EHS NA team. The Director manages 4-5 direct reports, offering day-to-day tactical support for sites in North America and aligning efforts with the GSC EHS strategy alongside peer Global Region Directors. This position acts as a strategic business partner to GSC Vice Presidents, leading month-end performance reviews and driving performance improvement initiatives. Monthly regional communication to site teams will reinforce the GSC EHS vision and strategy, covering incident investigations, best practice sharing, and positive recognition. The role ensures that all health, safety, and environmental programs are compliant with applicable global, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, and supports ISO, EHSMS, VPP, and other 3rd party certification achievements. The Director will execute onboarding and retention strategies for EHS leaders in the region to attract and retain top talent, and coordinate/collaborate across GSC regions to identify synergies between groups. Effective communication across stakeholders for program implementation and metrics is crucial. The role also involves executing the GSC Global EHS Strategy aligned with organizational EHS objectives, GSC business objectives, and the aspirational Vision of Zero injuries/incidents. Business unit strategies will be developed within assigned geographies, coordinating cross-regionally with EHS leaders in LATAM, APAC, and EMEAI for alignment and consistency. The Director will prioritize risk across the network, ensuring mitigation measures are established, escalations to risk owners are clearly communicated, and risks are incorporated into site-level capital planning. Established goals and objectives must be completed in accordance with scope and project budgets. The role aims to improve relevant leading and lagging EHS metrics aligned with GSC leadership’s goals and objectives, with escalation points to the Global Sr. Director for critical projects to ensure timelines and goals are met. Expertise in global safety programs including process safety, ergonomics, fleet safety, fire protection, and life safety is required for North American leadership. Programs will be developed and implemented to achieve reduction and control of injuries and property loss. Critical initiatives necessary to support Company-wide safety and risk control programs and processes that significantly reduce operational risk and drive key performance metrics will be identified. The role also involves identifying critical initiatives necessary to protect employees and the public, while demonstrating leadership in effecting compliance solutions that assure organizational sustainability. Expertise related to environmental programs including air, water, waste, spill prevention, and compliance is required for North American leadership. Efforts will be led to ensure all North American sites have a documented environmental compliance calendar and registrar of applicable regulations. The timely exchange of environmental-related information across NA GSC and within NA EHS will be facilitated, including best practices, newly identified risks, preventive and corrective measures, compliance related to regulations, industry and internal standards, and operating permits. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience leading the EHS program for a global organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of federal, state, and local EHS requirements, industry trends, and ability to work effectively in a globally-matrixed organization/team environment.
  • 5+ years Site Level Chemical MFG Experience in EHS, Engineering or Operations.
  • 10+ Years of direct management and implementation of Process Safety Management elements at a chemical manufacturing facility(s).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety or other related field.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Health Physicist, or Certified Hazardous Materials.
