About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator/PCQI works within the plant to ensure compliance with facility environmental permits, all required regulations, company safety programs, FSMA, USDA, cGMP's, FDA, HACCP, and Finished Product requirements. This role administers Darling Ingredient's Safety program, which includes ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, conducting safety training, performing facility audits, leading safety meetings, and conducting accident investigations. The position also involves training employees in environmental compliance, conducting site inspections, sampling, log review, and report preparation for various environmental aspects. Additionally, the role is responsible for performing product tests, maintaining lab equipment, ensuring finished products meet specifications, and reviewing plant documentation related to shipments and in-process controls. The coordinator also audits plant documentation, approves documents, addresses corrective actions, and ensures the proper monitoring and operation of environmental control equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • PCQI certification in human food or animal food, or must become certified upon hire through Darling-lead or industry FDA recognized curriculum completion.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in quality assurance, food production, agriculture, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Administers Darling Ingredient's Safety program, including compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Conducts CAL/OSHA safety training for new employees and monthly/annual training for existing employees.
  • Performs monthly safety facility audits and leads monthly safety meetings.
  • Performs accident investigations and advises management on corrective actions.
  • Conducts training of employees in environmental compliance, site inspections, sampling, log review, and report preparation.
  • Ensures compliance with Air Permit, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), cGMP's, HAACP, & FSMA (Food Safety) Compliance and Reporting requirements, and Solid & Hazardous Waste Management.
  • Manages Boiler Permits and Business and Operating Licenses.
  • Performs tests on incoming and outgoing product, records results, and reports problems to management.
  • Maintains lab equipment, tests all Finished Products, and manages lab supply inventory.
  • Ensures all Finished Products meet specifications before shipment to Customer.
  • Ensures all employees are trained on cGMP's, HAACP, & FSMA requirements.
  • Reviews all plant documentation associated with Finished Product shipments and in-process control documents, and addresses any corrective action as needed.
  • Responsible for completion of internal audits and corrective action.
  • Audits all plant's daily documentation, approves documents, addresses corrective actions, ensures their completion, and files documents.
  • Ensures proper monitoring and operation of environmental control equipment (air, water).
  • Completes Darling Ingredients PCQI Certification Training Course.
