About The Position

This position maintains and manages the EH&S Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) known as Gator Tracs, handling queries and providing training. The role involves conducting inspections of university laboratories to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, which includes reviewing safety information, scheduling visits, conducting site visits, administering questionnaires, visually inspecting various types of laboratories, and evaluating safety equipment. The position also supports Research Services with administrative duties such as auditing purchase orders, managing the Lab Safety inbox, and tracking EH&S forms. Additionally, it manages the lab closeout reporting system, including distributing information, tracking status, assigning inspectors, and updating databases. The role requires operating a UF/state vehicle and may involve occasional travel to offsite laboratories and after-hours incident response.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience.
  • Valid Florida driver license Required.
  • Ability to work on-campus.
  • Ability to wear a tight-fitting respirator for emergency purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Safety, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Science, or a related STEM field.
  • Three (3) years of safety related experience or other related experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of research laboratories
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Gator Tracs or Safety Stratus Lab Information Management Software
  • Resourceful and creative problem-solving skills from a customer service perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and manages EH&S’ Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) known as Gator Tracs.
  • Conducts queries for reports as directed by research services personnel or other stakeholders.
  • Handles phone queries and email correspondence relating to the EH&S safety database.
  • Provides general training on how to operate Gator Tracs.
  • Works with state and federal regulatory agencies and first responder representatives on matters related to Gator Tracs.
  • Prepares for and conducts inspections of university laboratories to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Completes duties associated with inspection performance including reviewing safety related information and records, scheduling visits, conducting site visits, administering survey questionnaires, visually inspecting laboratories (lab safety, biological, shops and IFAS), and evaluating various pieces of safety equipment.
  • Interacts with principal investigators (PI), technicians, students, departmental administrators, and UF’s Facilities Services Division.
  • Operates UF/state vehicle(s) to and from inspection sites.
  • Conducts administrative duties in support of Research Services as assigned.
  • Manages and tracks the lab closeout reporting system.
  • Distributes information to labs, follows up on the status of lab closeouts, assigns inspectors for closeout inspections and updates EH&S databases as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
