As an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist, you will support Uponor’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs across all UNA locations and departments. In conjunction with EHS engineer(s) and other staff, this position is responsible for the successful, professional, and timely completion of more basic EHS tasks such as accident investigations, coordinating hazardous waste and other environmental activities, conducting safety and environmental audits and inspections, conducting training, leading or attending meetings of safety committees and other groups, and assisting with emergency planning, such as emergency drills. This role will provide support to UNA’s appropriate management systems; supporting Uponor’s commitment to workplace safety, sustainability and protecting the environment are key aspects of this position. Administers Environmental Health and Safety programs including Personal Protective Equipment, Hazard Communication/Right to Know, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Lone Worker, etc. Plans, carries out, and documents safety inspections, audits, and evaluations including safety inspections, basic industrial hygiene evaluations (heat, noise and Carbon Monoxide), ergonomic evaluations, Job Safety Analysis, permit-required confined space evaluations, chalk circle observations, PPE hazard assessments, etc. Develops and conducts effective health and safety training especially New Employee Orientation and Powered Industrial Truck, but also including Employee Right to Know, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc. Ensures proper documentation of training. Investigates incidents and near misses to identify root causes and methods to prevent reoccurrences. Ensures proper documentation and follow up. Leads or assists in leading groups such as safety committees, safety sub-committees, and Emergency Response Teams. Leads or attends periodic meetings and records minutes. Coordinates group activities such as emergency drills, inspections, and training. Seeks out opportunities to contribute to the business success through proactive involvement in team initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of related professional experience, preferably in a 24/7 manufacturing environment OR some form of formal training such as related college coursework, OSHA 30 hour for General Industry, or Basic or Advanced safety certificate, or similar program.
  • Familiarity with basic EHS terminology, processes, procedures and requirements.
  • Excellent communications skills; oral and written.
  • Proficient with MS Office tools: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally interface with others.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of related professional experience, preferably in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field such as occupational health and safety, hazardous waste operations, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, business, etc.
  • Current certifications (i.e. GSP, ASP, CSP, CIH, OHST, CHMM) or plans to obtain within one year.
  • Authorization to teach OSHA 10/30.
  • Strong experience in conducting training, especially forklift training.
