About The Position

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Department operates 24/7 to support employee health, safety, and environmental compliance across the site. The EHS Specialist provides an assisting role in implementing and coordinating core components of the EHS Management System within a GMP‑regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This position assists with EHS sub‑programs, conducts routine inspections, assists with environmental compliance activities, supports training delivery, and leads investigations for lower‑severity incidents. The role serves as a developing subject matter contributor, working closely with senior EHS staff to support a safe and compliant workplace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of seven (7) years related work experience
  • Ability to read and interpret various documents, such as safety instructions, standard operating procedures, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Proficient in executing arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across various units of measurement, employing whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Strong grasp of algebraic and geometric principles
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Strong technical foundation and proven capability in effectively utilizing diverse software tools to streamline the organization's daily functions
  • Adeptness in manufacturing and internet software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve assigned EHS sub‑programs
  • Perform routine Gemba walks and collaborate with departments to identify hazards and corrective actions
  • Conduct regular safety inspections across laboratories, production areas, warehouses, and facility grounds
  • Inspect life‑safety equipment including but not limited to eyewash stations, emergency lights, and fire extinguishers
  • Assist with hazardous waste management including collecting, staging, and lab‑packing waste chemicals
  • Support basic industrial hygiene activities including but not limited to noise surveys and chemical exposure monitoring
  • Lead investigations for first‑aid, near‑miss, and low–moderate incidents
  • Coordinate Emergency Response Team (ERT) drills and document outcomes
  • Conduct and document EHS training sessions
  • Assist with permit applications, renewals, and regulatory audit responses
  • Model safe work practices and maintain confidentiality
  • Review and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Read/interpret SOPs to ensure compliance
  • Maintain up to date trainings
  • Other duties as assigned
