About The Position

The Health Services Specialist will coach, train, and support the EHS team/HR/WC manager with investigations, determining risks status, and corrective actions for incidents and near misses throughout the facility. The EHS specialist's role is to ensure the implementation of safety policies and regulations in the workplace. This role involves spearheading programs such as the observation program/safety audits, training new employees, identifying areas of vulnerabilities in the system, and running a safety committee. An EHS specialist must also maintain documentation of processes, produce progress reports, prepare presentations, and develop new policies when necessary. Furthermore, it is essential to coordinate with all departments, ensuring safety compliance in all areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • Current certification in First Aid, C.P.R. and AED (able to obtain first 60 days).
  • 3+ years of directly related work experience in the field of Harvest facilities.
  • 2+ years of experience in training, inspections, and/or auditing.
  • Prior experience training, or leading investigations.
  • Standard computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Bi-lingual (mandatory).
  • Strong ability to work as a part of a team and to build a team.
  • The ability to tackle a problem by using a logical, systematic, and sequential approach.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbally and written).

Nice To Haves

  • Blood Borne Pathogen & CAOHC Certification (preferred).
  • BAT/non-DOT specimen certification (preferred).
  • OSHA 30 (willing to obtain within 180 days).
  • First Aid and CPR train the trainer (willing to obtain withing 180 days).

Responsibilities

  • Inspect workplace environments, activities, and conditions to verify compliance with federal laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Conduct worksite audits to identify potential risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce or eliminate risk.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes and update SOPs as needed.
  • Assist with emergency response plans.
  • Suspend activities or the use of dangerous materials until alternative solutions have been developed, tested, and implemented.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and complaints.
  • Accurate and timely completion of First Reports of Injury, root cause analysis, and corrective actions recommendation.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of all medical data in accordance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Assists in the analysis of industrial accidents, cause hazards to health and environmental issues, and works with the E.H.S. team to make recommendations for improvement.
  • Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries; cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organizational use and hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Conducts new hire drug testing, new hire safety training, and monthly safety training for plant personnel when needed.
  • Comprehend all EHS policies and procedures, any updates, and recommend any changes that may need to be made.
  • Ensure all databases are accurate and precise.
  • Lead plant safety committee (SMART team).
  • Assist plants production team in completing safety observations; become subject matter expert for safety including policies and procedures, safety databases, investigations, determining corrective actions, and hazardous material.
  • Assist and support with implication of ergonomic study findings.
  • Monitor plant SDS’s.
  • Other duties as assigned.
