About The Position

Responsible for leading and executing risk-based Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) audits, waste disposal and recycling vendor evaluations, and environmental due diligence supporting property transactions. Applies advanced knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, OSHA standards, and fire and life safety codes to assess compliance, identify risk exposures, and recommend practical risk mitigation strategies. Ensures all audit and assessment activities are conducted in alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organizational procedures, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and risk awareness.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in EHS auditing, compliance, or environmental risk management (utility, energy, industrial, or consulting experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory interpretation and application (e.g., EPA, OSHA, NFPA, DOT).
  • Proven ability to conduct independent audits, analyze complex data, and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting and executive-level presentations.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of experience conducting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) audits, including participation in or leadership of approximately 100 audits across programmatic, facility, or vendor-based assessments.
  • 3-5 years of experience performing environmental due diligence in accordance with ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (E1527-21 or current standard).
  • 3-5 years of experience evaluating waste disposal and recycling vendors, including regulatory compliance, operational practices, and risk exposure.
  • Proven ability to plan, sequence, and execute complex assignments, effectively managing competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including scoping, scheduling, coordination of resources, and delivery of high-quality work products.
  • Advanced business acumen related to water and power systems, including understanding of operational risks, regulatory drivers, and utility-specific compliance frameworks.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Environmental Professional (EP)
  • ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute risk-based EHS audit plans, including objectives, scope, criteria, and methodology.
  • Lead and perform programmatic and facility-level compliance audits, including field inspections, document reviews, and personnel interviews.
  • Evaluate audit evidence to determine compliance, identify root causes, and assess systemic risks.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports and deliver audit results and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
  • Track, verify, and support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of waste disposal and recycling vendors, including regulatory compliance and operational risk.
  • Support and manage environmental due diligence activities, including ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessments during property transactions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support EHS risk management initiatives.
  • Represent the organization in industry groups, utility forums, and professional organizations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evolving EHS regulations, standards, and audit practices; pursue ongoing professional development.
