Environmental Health and Safety Manager
About The Position
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager Pavement Maintenance Group (PMG), the largest franchisee of the SealMaster® and GemSeal® brands, operates 31 locations, including eight manufacturing facilities nationwide. We manufacture and distribute pavement-maintenance products while supporting retail, warehouse, fleet, logistics, and field operations. As PMG grows, we need a practical EHS leader who can strengthen safety and environmental compliance while understanding operational and customer-service realities. Reporting to the COO and based in Allentown, PA, the EHS Manager partners closely with Operations and HR. This is a hands-on, field-based, multi-site leadership role, not a desk-only policy position. You will spend time in plants and operating locations, learn how work is performed, earn credibility with employees and site leaders, prioritize serious risks, and build consistent systems people will use.
Requirements
- Five or more years of progressive EHS ownership in rugged manufacturing or industrial operations.
- Experience in chemicals, coatings, asphalt, building materials, metals, packaging, bulk-material handling, warehousing, or distribution is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success building, rebuilding, or standardizing programs across multiple or developing locations.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA/environmental requirements, and DOT/FMCSA regulations.
- A practical, relationship-driven approach: visible in the field, curious before prescribing, firm without being punitive, and comfortable influencing without direct authority.
- Sound judgment, strong follow-through, and the ability to focus teams on the highest risks first.
- Ability to travel up to 35%, with a valid driver's license and insurability under company policy.
Responsibilities
- Build, implement, and standardize a company-wide EHS management program across manufacturing, distribution, retail, fleet, and field operations.
- Conduct site audits, inspections, risk assessments, and corrective-action follow-up.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, OSHA recordkeeping, workers' compensation coordination, return-to-work efforts, and EHS performance reporting.
- Own core OSHA general-industry programs, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, confined space, hazard communication/SDS, powered industrial trucks, PPE, ergonomics, emergency response, and industrial hygiene.
- Strengthen environmental compliance involving hazardous waste/RCRA, spill prevention and response, SPCC, stormwater/NPDES, Tier II reporting, and applicable air, water, wastewater, and waste permits.
- Support DOT/FMCSA compliance, fleet and driver safety, contractor safety, and safe material-handling practices.
- Develop practical policies, JSAs/JHAs, SOPs, onboarding, supervisor coaching, safety committees, and site training.
- Track leading and lagging indicators, identify trends, and communicate priorities to site leadership and executives.
- Partner with Operations to improve safety without creating unnecessary barriers to productivity, service, or business performance.
