About The Position

RTX, a global leader in aerospace and defense, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) professional to support its manufacturing campus in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role will serve as a focal point for facilities and maintenance, construction, and contractor safety management, supporting various projects across multiple buildings. The EHS professional will collaborate with Facilities, Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and cross-functional project teams to ensure safe, compliant, and well-coordinated EHS activities within a diverse manufacturing environment. This is an onsite position in Cedar Rapids and may be eligible for relocation.

Requirements

  • University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience OR an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in Environmental, Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify workplace hazards, assess risk, and develop practical risk-reduction solutions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply applicable EHS regulations, company standards, and procedures.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience supporting Facilities, Maintenance, Construction, or Project Management activities.
  • Experience with Management of Change and Contractor Management/Contractor Safety Management.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or managing high-risk EHS programs, including: Lockout/Tagout, Work at Heights/Fall Protection, Hot Work, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Hoists, Cranes, and Rigging, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Machine Guarding.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, job hazard analyses, field inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Familiarity with Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and a learning-focused approach to safety.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, aerospace, industrial, or similarly complex environment.
  • Professional EHS certification such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CPE, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and interpreting OSHA requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively partner with employees, leaders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and effectively manage projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and build strong relationships across all levels of an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide EHS support for management of change, contractor management, construction projects, and facility modifications, ensuring hazards are identified and controlled throughout the lifecycle of the work.
  • Partner with Facilities, Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and other functional teams to identify and mitigate EHS risks associated with manufacturing, maintenance, construction, and facility activities.
  • Provide technical support and oversight for high-risk EHS programs, including LOTO, work at heights, hot work, powered industrial vehicles, hoists, cranes, and rigging, confined space, electrical safety, and machine guarding.
  • Conduct field observations, risk assessments, inspections, and program reviews to identify opportunities for risk reduction and improve safety performance.
  • Partner with employees and leaders to investigate incidents, identify contributing factors, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Support the development and delivery of EHS training and communication to employees, leaders, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture by applying Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and engaging employees in identifying and solving safety challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, company standards, and EHS management systems.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives that improve the safety, health, and environmental performance of the site.
