About The Position

TAP Engineering is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Officer to support advanced research and engineering initiatives across a range of physical science domains, including quantum computing, advanced computing systems, additive manufacturing, photonics, advanced materials, and microelectronics. This role supports a research-focused environment where safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship are critical to mission success. The EH&S Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for environmental health and safety matters, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices while supporting scientific and engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
  • 11+ years of relevant experience without a degree
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with 7+ years of experience
  • OR Master’s degree in a related discipline with 5+ years of experience
  • Strong understanding of environmental health and safety standards and practices
  • Experience supporting laboratory, research, or technical environments
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification
  • Experience with hazardous materials handling and compliance
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and environmental compliance frameworks
  • Experience conducting safety audits and risk assessments
  • Ability to implement and improve safety programs in technical environments

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison with environmental health and safety stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain environmental and safety standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Investigate accidents and incidents and ensure proper reporting and documentation
  • Oversee decontamination procedures and support incident response activities
  • Identify and address environmental health and safety concerns
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement remediation plans
  • Support scientific staff in developing SOPs that incorporate safe practices
  • Maintain and manage hazardous chemical inventory
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation (including SDS) for all materials
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
  • Ensure availability and condition of protective equipment and safety gear
  • Maintain and distribute safety-related documentation and guidance
  • Coordinate with emergency services and support emergency response efforts as needed
