About The Position

High Tech High (HTH) is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to join its Central Operations Team. This role is responsible for coordinating and implementing the HTH Environmental Health and Safety Program in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Board of Education policies. The position will also supervise environmental health and safety, energy/utilities, and rubbish and recycling staff to ensure HTH's adherence to policies, procedures, and environmental health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Four years of recent directly related experience
  • Knowledge of modern health and safety and industrial hygiene procedures
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of field of specialty

  • Major in industrial hygiene, occupational safety engineering, or other appropriate field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety inspections of all sites and recommend corrective and preventive measures
  • Plan and implement safety education programs to create and maintain an active interest in accident prevention by all staff and students
  • Coordinate Environmental Health and Safety protocols, processes and policies with EHS Site Leads at each campus
  • Identify and maintain a list of hazardous/toxic chemicals and materials and arrange for removal and disposal or storage, and prepare manifests of items
  • Prepare tax documents for hazardous waste disposal
  • Recommend policies, develop procedures and manuals, and write bulletins and other materials for use in safety programs in coordination with the Chief Operations Officer and Compliance Officer
  • Implement and oversee the Injury and Illness Prevention Program in consultation with Chief Operations Officer, Compliance Officer and Human Resources
  • Maintain communication with numerous federal, state, and local agencies concerning occupational safety and health in coordination with Chief Operations Officer and Compliance Officer
  • Interpret fire, occupational health and safety, and industrial safety codes and regulations
  • Prepare applications for special permits
  • Survey accident trends, analyze statistical data and report finding through use of software applications related to assigned function
  • Review equipment specifications and advise staff on appropriate types of safety materials, equipment, appliances and chemicals
  • Support HTH in enforcement actions taken by regulatory agencies
  • Respond to requests for information from staff on the HTH Environmental Health and Safety Program
  • Maintain a variety of safety records and documents and prepare reports
  • Respond to after-hours emergency calls; communicate with site administrators, other staff, Maintenance Department staff, contractors, consultants, public agencies, and the general public
  • Maintain CAL/OSHA occupational injury log
