About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator oversees environmental compliance and workplace safety programs for the Omega Protein Moss Point Facility. This role works closely with management, supervisors, and employees to identify hazards, reduce workplace risks, ensure federal, state and local regulatory compliance, and promote a culture of safety.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (preferred).
  • Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • 2–5 years of EHS experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Maritime Standards (29 CFR 1915), OSHA General Industry Standards (29 CFR 1910).
  • Knowledge of federal environmental related regulations, chemical and hazardous material management.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine environmental and safety inspections of facility and vessels.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, Coast Guard, and applicable maritime safety regulations.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver safety orientation and ongoing safety and environmental employee training.
  • Monitor confined space entry, hot work, fall protection, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection, and PPE programs.
  • Perform job risk assessments.
  • Assist management in maintaining safety and environmental documentation, permits, inspections, and regulatory records.
  • Assist management in coordinating emergency response planning, evacuation drills, and spill response activities.
  • Monitor hazardous waste handling, storage, disposal, and recycling programs.
  • Assist with environmental permitting and reporting requirements.
  • Support contractor safety management and compliance.
  • Promote employee participation in safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend corrective actions to eliminate unsafe conditions, behaviors and environmental risks.
  • Assist management in dealings with government officials enforcing environmental regulations.
  • Assist management in filing EPA and DEQ reports as required.
