About The Position

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator supports the protection of employees, contractors, and the public by conducting site inspections, audits, and assessments of project operations, work practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements. Assists the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization's safety and environmental programs, promoting a proactive culture of compliance, risk management, and operational excellence across all project sites.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience within the heavy civil/ infrastructure construction industry.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and best practices across multiple project sites and operational environments.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of legislation relating to health and safety including but not limited to, Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
  • General administrative and clerical procedures.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • University/College Graduate with a background in health and safety or equivalency would be considered an asset.
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) certificate/diploma through an accredited post-secondary institution or working towards would be considered an asset.
  • Ontario JHSC Certification, WSIB/ CSA, 1st Aid Certification, and NCSO designation all considered an asset.
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certification would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) team by promoting a strong safety culture across all projects and operations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with Ontario health and safety legislation, company policies, and client requirements.
  • Identify workplace hazards and work with project teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate safety documentation.
  • Assist with incident investigations, including reporting, documentation, and follow-up activities.
  • Deliver health and safety orientations and awareness training for employees.
  • Support the administration of WSIB claims and return-to-work processes.
  • Assist with employee training, safety meetings, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Help prepare pre-project safety documentation and support project mobilization activities.
  • Stay current on health and safety legislation, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to promote safe work practices.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Company's health, safety, and environmental programs.
