About The Position
The Environmental Haz Driver plays a critical role in the safe and compliant transportation of hazardous materials across various locations within the United States. This position requires meticulous adherence to federal, state, and local regulations to ensure the protection of public health and the environment. The driver is responsible for the secure loading, transport, and unloading of hazardous substances, maintaining the integrity of containment systems throughout the journey. Effective communication with dispatch, regulatory agencies, and receiving facilities is essential to coordinate logistics and respond promptly to any incidents. Ultimately, this role ensures that hazardous materials are delivered safely and efficiently, minimizing risk and supporting environmental safety initiatives.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat endorsement.
- Clean driving record with no major violations in the past three years.
- Knowledge of and compliance with DOT hazardous materials regulations (49 CFR).
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screening as required by federal regulations.
- Physical ability to perform loading/unloading tasks and operate commercial vehicles safely.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience as a hazardous materials driver or in a related transportation role.
- Certification in hazardous materials handling or safety training programs.
- Familiarity with GPS and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Experience working with environmental safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate commercial vehicles to transport hazardous materials in compliance with all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies.
- Inspect vehicles and hazardous material containment systems before and after trips to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
- Load and unload hazardous materials carefully, following established safety protocols to prevent spills, leaks, or contamination.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation, including shipping papers, manifests, and inspection reports.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, regulatory authorities, and receiving personnel to coordinate schedules and report any incidents or delays.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or accidents involving hazardous materials, following established safety procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training programs to stay current with hazardous materials handling and transportation regulations.
