About The Position

Parsons is looking for an Environmental GIS and Data Specialist to join their team. In this role, the specialist will build and manage databases, seek automated solutions, and analyze and visualize data for client deliverables. This position supports the Environmental team in Oakville, assisting senior advisors, project managers, coordinators, and field technicians. The role requires strong collaborative skills as well as the ability to work independently. The specialist will support projects related to Contaminated Land Assessments and Management Programs (Phase I and II ESAs), Remediations, Excess Soil management, and other environmental management plans and monitoring.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of ArcGIS Pro
  • University degree or College diploma in geography, environmental science, earth sciences, or other related programs
  • 2+ years of experience related to the job responsibilities
  • Application of SQL and Python
  • Knowledge of Graphic User Interface platforms i.e. ArcGIS Field Maps, StoryMaps, Survey123, Forms on Fire
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications skills to operate self-sufficiently.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of AutoCad
  • Working knowledge of Trimble units and data collection
  • Knowledge of general engineering and geosciences software is an asset
  • Experience working with environmental or scientific databases (e.g., EQuIS, SQL, or similar platforms) is an asset
  • Knowledge of Sharepoint and PowerAutomate is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing AI to create credible work
  • Demonstrated presentation skills to present information to varied audiences and clear writing skills to prepare reports/materials of varying complexity
  • Access to personal vehicle preferred
  • History of taking initiative: learning and keeping up to date on professional development, including software applications, volunteering for workplace initiatives (ie. Special assignments, office housekeeping, socials, etc.)
  • Relevant trade experience may also be considered as equivalent for the right candidate with experience in similar operations.
  • Experience in related industry an asset, must have career interest in the environmental field.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage databases.
  • Seek automated solutions.
  • Analyze and visualize data for client deliverables.
  • Investigate and lead innovative ArcGIS and other digital initiatives and software implementation to improve data collection, visualization, and project delivery.
  • Utilize and manage environmental, chemical, hydrogeological, geographical and opensource data.
  • Build and manage geodatabases; query and produce reports from data in the databases.
  • Build and maintain digital forms that collect field data that feed the database.
  • Automate repetitive workflows by maximizing ArcGIS Pro tools and SQL and Python.
  • Design workflows between ArcGIS Pro and compatible software and equipment.
  • Create routine and custom figures within a template for environmental site assessment reports to clients.
  • Work in project teams using interpersonal and organizational skills to ensure project tasks are completed on time and budget.
