About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Geologist to support the Environmental business line, primarily working on Federal projects. This role involves utilizing basic scientific principles to solve technical problems, applying standard field practices for sample collection (soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment), preparing samples for shipping, and completing necessary paperwork. The position requires applying knowledge of natural sciences to explain observations, conducting oversight of subcontractors (laboratories, excavation, and drilling companies), studying contaminants to determine restoration methods, and preparing basic data and scientific documents. The role also includes technical report writing, performing unsupervised field tasks, directing staff, coordinating with task and project managers, supporting sampling and data collection, providing technical expertise, and learning about hazard recognition and environmental investigation or remediation. Travel to various job sites within the US is expected, along with flexibility for diverse projects, a positive attitude, and a commitment to workplace health and safety.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Engineering or other related discipline (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology) + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Valid U.S. driver’s license required. Subject to Motor Vehicle Records check.
Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required.
Candidate must be able to pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check to obtain U.S. Federal Government Credentials.
Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology or other related discipline (e.g., geophysics, hydrogeology, geochemistry, environmental geology, engineering geology).
Professional registration or track to obtain professional registration.
Experience with developing conceptual site models, and preparing remediation strategies
Proficiency in standard office suite software applications.
Selected candidate will be required to complete 40 hour HAZWOPER training, OSHA 30-Hour Training for Construction and General Industry, and annual 8 hour refresher class. Currently trained is a plus.
Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.
Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner. Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.
Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs of sampling equipment and coolers, with assistance up to 90% of the time.
Safely drive and operate a full-size pickup truck.
Be medically fit for wearing a respirator.
Able to work in variable climate conditions including heat, snow, cold, wind, etc.

Responsibilities

Utilizes basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
Apply standard field practices and techniques using basic field equipment to collect samples of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment; prepare samples for shipping, and complete chain-of-custody or similar paperwork.
Apply knowledge of natural sciences (chemistry, physics, biology, hydrology, and mathematics) to explain observations.
Conduct oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies.
Study contaminants and determine how to restore the environment.
Prepare basic data and scientific documents.
Possess technical report writing skills.
Performs unsupervised field tasks.
Direct staff in the execution of tasks.
Coordination with task and project managers, working with on-site subcontractors and field staff, supporting sampling, data collection, and field documentation.
Provide technical expertise support.
Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition; and environmental investigation or remediation.
Travel to various job sites within the US
