As an Environmental Engineering Trainee with the Department of Environmental Protection, you will begin a path that strengthens public health and environmental quality. Take part in work that helps communities thrive! This role supports the technical oversight of waste facilities throughout the Southcentral Region. It helps ensure that waste operations follow environmental laws and protect public health.

Requirements

• One year of engineering experience and possession of an active Engineering Intern certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
• A bachelor’s degree in engineering
• Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
• Must possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport
• Must meet the PA residency requirement
• Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

• Evaluate permit applications for waste facilities for completeness and design accuracy
• Apply environmental laws and standards related to waste disposal and treatment
• Prepare review memos, deficiency letters, and permit documents in line with regulations
• Inspect facilities during construction, operation, and closure to verify compliance
• Input and maintain data in required departmental systems to meet quality standards
• Identify technical issues and recommend solutions to supervisors
