About The Position

BLDI is seeking an Environmental Engineering Technician to join their team in Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan. This role will primarily involve assisting in various field events such as soil, groundwater, and soil gas sampling, which occur year-round and are mainly located within Michigan. The position also includes assisting with office tasks, with a potential future opportunity to transition into an office-based role focused on report writing. The successful candidate will collect data, document field conditions for remediation sites, prepare and clean equipment, operate field sampling pumps and monitoring instruments, collect various types of samples, perform surveying, log soil borings, install groundwater monitoring wells, record field results, document field events, and prepare samples for laboratory pickup. The role also requires participation in extensive field work, including out-of-town travel and overnight stays. Additionally, the technician will develop tables, figures, and reports for the remediation department, and adhere to company safety standards, including participating in safety training and preparing/implementing site safety plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Geology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 0 to 3 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and orally, with project managers, clients, and other staff.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screen, including but not limited to personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, motor vehicle records, credit check and other relevant background information deemed necessary by WDC.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER preferred but not required.
