About The Position

BLDI is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Environmental Engineering Technician to join their busy team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The role involves assisting in conducting various environmental due diligence reports, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Assessments, and Due Care Plans. The position requires data collection and documentation for remediation sites, including equipment preparation, sampling, surveying, logging soil borings, installing groundwater monitoring wells, and preparing samples for laboratory pickup. The role also involves participating in fieldwork, potentially with out-of-town travel and overnight stays, developing reports and documents, and adhering to company safety standards. Travel is a significant component, often requiring multiple days per week with overnight stays in southeast Michigan, with expenses covered by BLDI.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Geology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• 0 to 3 years’ experience in a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and orally, with project managers, clients, and other staff.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task.
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects at the same time.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screen, including but not limited to personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, motor vehicle records, credit check and other relevant background information deemed necessary by WDC.

Nice To Haves

• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Collect data and document field conditions for remediation sites.
• Prepare and clean equipment.
• Operate field sampling pumps and monitoring instruments.
• Collect soil, groundwater, and soil gas samples.
• Perform surveying.
• Log soil borings.
• Install groundwater monitoring wells.
• Collect field results and monitor conditions.
• Document field events.
• Prepare samples for laboratory pick-up.
• Participate in fieldwork with out-of-town travel and overnight stays.
• Develop tables, figures, and reports/documents for the remediation department.
• Follow company safety standards.
• Participate in safety training.
• Prepare and implement site safety plans.
