About The Position

Frontier-Kemper-Tutor Perini joint venture is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Manhattan Tunnel Project in New York, New York. The Frontier-Kemper-Tutor Perini joint venture was awarded the Manhattan Tunnel Project, part of the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP). This is a $1.18 billion design-build contract from the Gateway Development Commission for the HTP, which aims to enhance rail resiliency by adding two new tracks between New York and New Jersey and rehabilitating the storm-damaged North River Tunnel. The project includes designing and constructing twin 30-foot diameter, 700-foot-long tunnels under the Hudson River, connecting to existing tunnels beneath Hudson Yards, and an access shaft at 12th Avenue, which will later serve as a ventilation facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated EHS experience in construction environments, including extensive on‑site field operations.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) credential recognized by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).
  • OSHA 40‑Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Proven experience with hazardous waste management; chemical and petroleum storage; oil and chemical spill prevention and response plans; and remediation activities involving lead, PCBs, and asbestos.
  • Working knowledge of stormwater management, soil management practices, and environmental permitting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental impact assessments and site evaluations related to civil construction projects.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor environmental management plans (EMPs) to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to integrate environmental considerations into project planning and execution.
  • Monitor air, water, soil quality, and waste management on construction sites to prevent contamination and pollution.
  • Perform environmental inspections and prepare environmental reports, documentation, and permit applications required for construction projects.
  • Identify potential environmental risks and provide recommendations for mitigation measures.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure adherence to environmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of environmental training programs for construction teams.
  • Stay updated on environmental laws, regulations, and best practices related to civil construction.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and the use of green technologies in construction projects.
