About The Position

The Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a dedicated, forward-thinking Environmental Engineer to join our vital Engineering Section within the Division of Water Quality. In this critical role, you won't just be reviewing plans—you will be a key player in safeguarding our state's water resources. Requirements

  • 0 to 15 years of engineering practice with increasing degrees of responsibility involving wastewater process technology analysis, design and specification.
  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • At a minimum a candidate must hold an Engineer in training (EIT) certificate demonstrating passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Technical expertise in all aspects of wastewater treatment systems analysis, design, and permit delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of physicochemical and biological wastewater treatment process fundamentals and resource recovery principles.
  • Direct experience developing or implementing wastewater treatability analysis, developing process models, analyzing process alternatives, and working with designers to prepare engineering plans, and specifications for treatment works and sewerage systems.
  • Strong project management skills and an ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science or Engineering with emphasis in wastewater treatment process design.
  • Preference may also be given to those with a Utah Professional Engineering License or ability to obtain the license within 12 months.
  • Professional Engineer/Register Engineer license in Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Environmental or related disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical reports for and present projects to the Water Quality Board.
  • Review engineering calculations, plans, and technical specifications for Wastewater Infrastructure projects.
  • Participate as a team member or team leader on Special Projects and Division Initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally to internal and external customers, stakeholders and the public.
