About The Position

The Environmental Compliance Specialist, located in our Columbus, OH plant, is responsible for ensuring that the facility’s compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations/agencies by developing and implementing environmental programs. You will research environmental risks, investigate complaints, and develop strategies to control pollution, manage hazardous materials, and improve overall environmental quality.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years Environmental Health work experience in a manufacturing facility is required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working with and reporting to Federal and State (OSHA, EPA/DEP, etc.) agencies, including a solid understanding of their associated regulations and standards.
  • Experience with Hazardous Waste Management, including permitting for Air, Stormwater, and Industrial Water Discharge.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including, but not limited to, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Exceptional reading comprehension and attention to detail in order to manage documentation and ensure compliance.
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to address unique environmental challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow and accept challenges.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (such as Environmental Health) may help compensate for some experience.
  • Certifications in Environmental Health & Safety related programs preferred.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) is highly preferred to present information clearly and train our diverse workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Inspections and audits: Conduct regular inspections of facilities and processes to identify and correct potential environmental hazards.
  • Risk assessment: Identify and evaluate potential health and environmental hazards and assess the effectiveness of control mechanisms.
  • Regulatory compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws.
  • Emergency preparedness: Play a role in emergency response planning and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Program development: Create, implement, and monitor Environmental Health policies and programs.
  • Training and education: Develop and provide best practices to employees on topics such as emergency response and regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting: Maintain records and prepare reports for regulatory compliance.
