About The Position

The Environmental Chemist 2 role with the Department of Environmental Protection invites you to help strengthen environmental health across the state. This position allows you to support scientific work that improves cleanup standards and public understanding. You will join a team that works toward safer land use and cleaner communities. This role supports statewide environmental goals by providing technical expertise within the Land Recycling Program. The work focuses on guidance, regulations, public information, and technical consultation relating to environmental chemistry.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as an Environmental Chemist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Eight years of professional chemical analytical experience which included analyzing a wide variety of chemicals and interpreting the analysis
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Provide explanations and advice on environmental chemistry issues for regional staff
  • Serve as a consultant on technical matters connected to the Land Recycling Program
  • Assess risk assessments and related work products and offer clear and constructive comments
  • Prepare written materials that support public understanding of land recycling activities
  • Assist with developing and presenting training seminars for staff and consultants
  • Develop and maintain databases and tracking tools used for program operations
