About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Environmental Biologist II to join our Environmental Planning and Permitting Group based out of Indianapolis, IN. This is a hybrid role. This position will support a variety of transportation, energy, water, and infrastructure projects throughout the Midwest. The successful candidate will conduct natural resource field investigations, perform wetland delineations, prepare Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permit applications, support threatened and endangered species evaluations, and assist with environmental compliance and permitting efforts. The role offers a balance of fieldwork and technical report preparation and provides opportunities to work directly with state and federal regulatory agencies.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, wildlife biology, or related field.
2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education within natural resources.
Ability to travel for field assignments.
Valid US Driver's License and pre-employment driving record verification is required.
US Citizenship is required.

4+ years of relevant experience within environmental consulting or natural resources.
Experience performing wetland delineations using the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and applicable Regional Supplements.
Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), wetland certification, or eligibility to obtain certification.
Experience preparing or supporting Clean Water Act Sections 404 and 401 permit applications.
Experience conducting natural resource field surveys and technical report preparation.
Working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations affecting aquatic resources and protected species.
Prior environmental consulting experience supporting transportation, utility, energy, or infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process and experience contributing to environmental documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), resource technical reports, and related environmental review documentation.
Knowledge of Midwest-specific threatened and endangered species (e.g., Indiana Bat, Northern Long-eared Bat, or Rusty Patched Bumble Bee) and experience with Section 7 consultation.
Experience serving as a Task Lead or Deputy Project Manager, including managing budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary sub-consultants.
Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Field Maps for spatial analysis and environmental constraints mapping.

Responsibilities

Prepare wetland delineation reports, ordinary high water mark determinations, aquatic resource assessments, habitat assessments, biological technical reports, and permit support documentation. Serve as the primary author for reports appropriate to experience level.
Prepare and support Section 404 and Section 401 permit applications, mitigation documentation, permit compliance materials, and agency coordination efforts. Interpret applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations affecting project development.
Coordinate technical tasks, manage assigned project deliverables, support schedule adherence, and communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
Conduct wetland delineations, stream assessments, habitat evaluations, threatened and endangered species habitat assessments, vegetation surveys, and other natural resource field investigations. Travel to project sites throughout the Midwest and collect defensible field data in accordance with applicable federal and regional guidance.
Utilize GIS, aerial photography, soil surveys, National Wetland Inventory data, and agency databases to support environmental constraints analyses, permit applications, and resource evaluations.
Coordinate with agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), and other state and federal agencies regarding permitting and environmental review requirements.
