About The Position

The Business and Operational Support Services (BOSS) program is seeking an Administrative Permitting Unit Supervisor to oversee a team of administrative staff, support continuous improvement efforts, and other division wide operations. The BOSS program provides administrative, financial, and technological services for the Watershed Management Division with the goal of promoting efficiency, enhancing consistency, and better leveraging technology. The Division is responsible for protecting, maintaining, enhancing, and restoring the quality of Vermont's surface water resources. This position will oversee a team of five administrative permit and compliance staff who process environmental permit applications and authorizations, track permit compliance, and provide excellent internal and external customer service. The position will guide and empower staff by having regular check-ins, helping to resolve problems, making nuanced decisions in line with permit procedures, and supporting improvements to their work. This position will also be part of a BOSS project team that strategically prioritizes and carries out projects to improve permit processes, financial operations, or develop new tools for efficiency. This involves detailed project planning, communication, collaboration across programs, project management, and change management.

  • Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND three (3) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
  • Bachelor's degree in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND four (4) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
  • Seven (7) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with complex data systems and federal and/or state permitting background.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily section operations to ensure processes are running efficiently and according to procedures
  • Cultivate an environment where their team feels connected, supported, and encouraged to grow professionally
  • Manage small and large improvement projects from planning to implementation
  • Assist in making strategic prioritization decisions for the program
  • Oversee and support information management, data tracking, data systems, and documentation of procedures
  • May assist with communication, onboarding, employee engagement or other division operations depending on interest and experience.
