About The Position

Under general direction of the Sustainability Project Manager, this position supports DFW’s enterprise sustainability, local air quality, and environmental grants programs. Supports DFW’s carbon neutral accreditation and ‘Net Zero Carbon by 2030’ goal through monitoring, measuring, and reporting greenhouse gas emissions. Advances the implementation of DFW’s Sustainability Management Plan through the development of sustainability initiatives related to climate action; energy performance; water and biodiversity; diversity and equity; and health, safety, and wellness. Analyzes and interprets data; performs emissions modeling, technical writing, schematic design review, environmental testing, and other duties in office, lab, and/or on location in the field as needed. Interfaces with internal DFW Board departments, airlines, tenants, and government/regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical or life sciences, environmental science, engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of experience in environmental operations, environmental analysis, or environmental program administration.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted to the above.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of sustainability issues and practices including but not limited to climate action and adaptation, waste reduction, air quality, green building standards, water quality protection, water conservation, energy efficiency, alternative fuels, fleet electrification, restoration of ecosystem services, and resource management.
  • Ability to understand and utilize science, critical thinking, reading comprehension, speaking, active listening, writing, and complex problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate scientific topics effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strength in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with green building certification standards, such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), WELL Building Standard, and/or Envision and desire to obtain credentials in one or more standard.
  • Ability to apply a triple bottom line approach to decision-making.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, and rules.
  • Knowledge of currently accepted environmental testing and sampling procedures.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with exposure to asbestos, solid and hazardous waste, contaminated soil, water, and air.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly.
  • Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to handle multiple and/or fluctuating priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to operate field monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical data in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and to assess their impact on the operation of the Airport.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate data from a wide variety of sources and to develop related conclusions, recommendations, and policies.

  • Ability to deploy emergency intervention devices such as booms, absorbent materials, and neutralizing agents during emergency response activities.
  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et. Al. and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug screening test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • This is a designated essential employee position as defined in the Categories and Classifications of Employees Policy of the Airport Administrative Policy and Procedure. This is defined as an employee whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation (e.g., winter weather).
  • Department may designate specific area(s) of environmental experience.
  • Licenses and certifications required by state and federal agencies for the performance of these job duties must be obtained within the time specified by department. Failure to do so may result in termination of employment.
  • Fulfill all training requirements and activities in accordance with Title 14 CFR Part 139 and Administrative Policy AO.014.01, Ground Vehicle Driver Training for Air Operations Area.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data related to environmental and sustainability performance, including greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, waste generation, water consumption, and biodiversity indicators; supports annual environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting activities.
  • Prepares reports and presentations summarizing sustainability performance metrics, trends, and key findings for internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, investors, and the public.
  • Maintains databases, software tools, and systems for tracking and reporting sustainability data, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility for decision-making purposes; prepares, certifies, and submits technical reports to state and federal agencies and certification bodies.
  • Researches emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainability and provides recommendations for innovative solutions to improve performance and address sustainability challenges; develops and delivers training sessions, workshops, and educational materials to raise awareness and build capacity among employees and stakeholders on sustainability topics and initiatives.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of sustainability strategies, initiatives, and projects in conjunction with project managers; ensures alignment with organizational objectives and stakeholder expectations; provides documentation, quality control and scheduling as required for the administration and execution of each assignment (i.e., Capital funding documents, Official Board Actions, Business Case, grant application, etc.).
  • Evaluates the organization’s sustainability and environmental performance; identifies potential risks and opportunities associated with sustainability issues, such as climate change, resource scarcity, reputational damage, and regulatory changes; recommends strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
