About The Position

The Environmental Maintenance (EM) Instructor will provide classroom-based instruction to in-custody inmates participating in the JEVS PDP Vocational Training Program within the Philadelphia Department of Prisons (PDP). The Instructor will be responsible for providing students with hands-on training and theory based practices as they guide students through the facets of industrial, residential and commercial cleaning. TCY is an innovative program for first-time, nonviolent felony drug offenders facing one to two year prison sentences. Upon successful completion, the program offers graduates the opportunity to have their criminal records expunged, removing the stigma of a criminal record.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom lectures and hands-on demonstration on in the proper use and operation of all floor machines and the maintenance of all chemicals, tools, and equipment used within the janitorial industry.
  • Conduct class lectures and hands-on instruction via industry related best practices, chemicals, tools and floor care machinery
  • Provide supervision to inmates during all phases of instruction ensuring a clean, orderly and safe shop area
  • Read, sign, maintain and comply with PDP policies; given on a monthly basis
  • Document, date and acquire proper signatures for daily PDP Inventory Sheets and submit into PDP Emergency Management Team Sergeant and Facility Deputy Warden on the 29th of each month; retain copies for records.
  • Meet mandated completion rates (excluding drop out and non participation) and certification rates
  • Attend all JEVS and PDP sponsored training/meetings; and subject matter professional development trainings periodically
