Join the Division of Shellfish Safety & Waterborne Hazards team to promote and protect public health and safety! Be one of three environmental health specialists in the Norfolk Field Office responsible for implementation of field activities in support of the public health program to minimize risks associated with consumption of shellfish and crustacea. These responsibilities include interpretation and application of environmental laws, regulations, policies and procedures to determine compliance; operation of small boats to perform field assessments and sample collection in shellfish growing areas; conducting near-shore shoreline surveys to assess potential pollution sources that may adversely affect shellfish growing areas; conducting shellfish and crustacea facility inspections to assess food safety and sanitation practices; conducting reviews of shellfish and crustacea processing facility plans and specifications; and providing education and technical assistance to shellfish harvesters and processors.
