About The Position

The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Department is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our associates, minimizing the EHS impact of their activities and complying with all applicable environmental, safety and industrial hygiene regulations. The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist will provide onsite EHS support plus regional support to satellite sites within the U.S., specifically Utah and California. They will assist with EHS audits and assessments, maintain EHS programs to ensure compliance with applicable EHS legal and other requirements, and prepare and submit accurate and timely EHS regulatory reports. This role also involves maintaining the MSI and ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management system requirements, maintaining accurate records, and performing and documenting accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions. The specialist will develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training, take the lead in responding to site emergencies, perform and document workplace ergonomic assessments, and coordinate and lead safety and emergency response teams. Additionally, they will perform and document EHS safety and housekeeping inspections, risk and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) assessments, and machine guarding assessments. Management of a radio frequency (RF) program, ensuring required inspections and maintenance on equipment, and issuing EHS permits are also key responsibilities. The role includes performing basic IH monitoring and contracting for other IH monitoring needs, conducting random EHS inspections of independent contractors, and interacting with other functions to promote safe, healthful, and environmentally conscious work practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of experience in EHS operations
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract
  • Working knowledge of local EHS requirements (e.g. OSHA, Cal OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and records management skills
  • Computer skills, including Google applications
  • Demonstrated project management skills and proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree emphasis in safety, environment, industrial hygiene, chemical engineering or physical sciences is preferred
  • Safety certification such as Associate/Certified Safety Professional (ASP/CSP) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite EHS support plus regional support to satellite sites within the U.S., specifically Utah and California
  • Assist with EHS audits and assessments
  • Maintain EHS programs to ensure compliance with applicable EHS legal and other requirements
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely EHS regulatory reports and ensure that applicable EHS permits and licenses are filed and maintained
  • Maintain the MSI and ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management system requirements
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with the MSIs’ global recordkeeping requirements
  • Perform and document accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver EHS training to identify target audience, track training and maintain training records
  • Take lead in responding to site emergencies including, but not limited to accidents/incidents, fires, floods, chemical spills, severe weather, etc.
  • Perform and document workplace ergonomic assessments
  • Coordinate and lead safety and emergency response teams, including holding quarterly meetings, and performing drills and debriefs
  • Perform and document EHS safety and housekeeping inspections and ensure timely corrective actions are implemented for identified non-compliances
  • Perform and document risk and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) assessments and implement controls
  • Conduct machine guarding assessments and ensure all machines are properly guarded
  • Ensure all equipment with multiple sources of energy have LOTO procedures in place
  • Manage a radio frequency (RF) program
  • Ensure all required inspections and maintenance are performed on equipment such as powered industrial vehicles, cranes and hoists, etc.
  • Issue EHS permits including but not limited to hot work, confined space, energized electrical work, etc.
  • Perform basic IH monitoring, i.e. noise, RF, etc. and contract with approved outside consultant/vendor as applicable for other IH monitoring needs
  • Conduct random EHS inspections of independent contractors
  • Interact with other functions, including, but not limited to: operations management, Engineering, Facility Maintenance, Human Resources, Security, etc. to promote safe, healthful and environmentally conscious work practices
