About The Position

The Environment, Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for monitoring and supporting the Delson plant with respect to environmental, health, and safety matters. They ensure that activities—particularly those related to TRD—are strictly compliant with government regulations, company policies, and customer requirements. The person will promote a safety culture by demonstrating positive leadership and proposing balanced safety solutions.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary studies in environment, health, and safety, or a combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environment, health, and safety in the manufacturing sector.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Bilingual (French/English), oral and written, due to communication/collaboration with sites outside the province.
  • In-depth understanding of federal and provincial (Quebec) health and safety regulations.
  • Good understanding of Quebec environmental regulations.
  • Excellent written communication skills (producing reports, compiling information, etc.).
  • Effective interpersonal skills and leadership.
  • Ability to manage stress and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office suite).

Nice To Haves

  • “Trainer of the trainer” training is an asset.
  • In good standing with the Canadian Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CCPSA) — an asset.
  • Knowledge of the wood processing industry is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards by following up on accidents, conducting investigations, and compiling statistics.
  • Ensure the onboarding of new employees, training, and the necessary organization to guarantee that training meets company standards.
  • Co-chair the health and safety committee at the plants. Keep up to date the records of all safety meeting minutes.
  • Maintain and manage risk assessment and the related Job Safety Analysis program / JSA procedures for the plants.
  • Conduct safety checks and inspections for the plants, as well as employee follow-up discussions, in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Manage and update the Lockout/Tagout program (LOTO).
  • Determine, coordinate, and facilitate training for committee members and supervisors.
  • Facilitate training on workplace harassment and intimidation for all plant employees.
  • Observe work activities and advise management and workers on safe work practices and procedures.
  • Manage and update the safety manual.
  • Participate in projects and take part in workplace activities related to health and safety.
  • Monitor changes to CNESST regulations and communicate them to the plants.
  • Assist the manager and Human Resources with CNESST records follow-up.
  • Update Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Support Operations by planning and presenting safety meetings; develop and manage various safety programs, procedures, and standards.
  • Inspect, verify, and evaluate health and safety programs, conditions, equipment, and work methods.
  • Participate in various safety training sessions and seminars.
  • Participate in facility inspections, audits, and training.
  • Ensure permit requests are handled.
  • Participate in implementing policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Participate in environmental follow-up for the plants, including supporting field work when necessary.
  • Draft and submit reports and keep accurate records.
  • Participate in the plant inventory.
  • Perform any other duties assigned.
